Fingerprint Time Clock Using Fingerprints And An Employee ID Code
The fingerprint time clock system works by using fingerprints and an employee ID code. Each user enters his or her password code and then pressing their fingerprint against the fingerprint reader. Like other biometric systems, they eliminate the need for time cards, plastic ID cards with magnetic strips, and eliminate buddy punching. Most readers work from USB ports on any computer that supports Windows 95/98/2000/XP systems. (One imagines that the manufacturers are working on Windows Vista applications.) Approximately 1 MB of hard drive space and a CD disk drive are also needed.
The fingerprint time clock readers are rugged and register dirty fingerprints. However, when the readers become too dirty, distortions may occur if they are not cleaned according to manufacturer's directions. Since the fingerprint's characteristics and measurements, not the image, are stored, the employee would do well to wipe or wash and dry their hands to provide accurate readings. Should an employee injure the registered fingerprint, a new fingerprint can be registered in a few minutes. Fingerprint time systems may be used in rugged conditions by installing heavy duty factory grade computers, monitors and keyboards. These elements are not waterproof, however, and safety from the elements must be provided. Fingerprint time systems register from 50 to 100 employees using software especially developed for the punch in system. The software generally permits any common pay period (weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly or monthly). Payroll time is saved since the software automatically calculates the employee's time worked including overtime. Overtime is calculated using daily and weekly overtime as well as seventh day overtime. Also, different schedules and shifts may be entered with variable rates for the different jobs and different shifts. Administrators and managers have password security codes to prevent compromising the software. Administrators can view the in and out board in order to see who is in or who is out of the office. Supervisors can edit and approve electronic time cards at the PC thus preventing messy paperwork which speeds up the payroll process. The software support tracks employee's sick or personal time in addition to vacation and holidays. Fingerprint time clock systems are fully compatible with known payroll packages. Data may be exported to third-party software such as QuickBooks, ADP, PayChex, PrimePay, PrimeLink, or a user defined Generic ASCII file. Fingerprint time clock systems permit the employer to save the data to a diskette while at the same time maintaining pay period history in archives for running reports. Normally, all reports can be displayed on the screen, printed or saved to a file. Some of the reports provided are time card, who's in and who's out, hours summary, employee list, holidays, approaching overtime, FMLA, approved/un-approved time card hours, and clock rules. |
